"Benne Biscuit" (Butter Biscuit)

This is about the popular bakery product in Bangalore... Benne (Butter) biscuit is the hot favourite in Karnataka available in Ayyangar Bakeries.. I wanted to try this at home for long time.. During Xmas vacation, I gave it a shot..here is the recipe.. Ingradients : 1 cup Maida; 1/4th tsp Baking soda; 1/2 tsp Baking powder; 1/4th tsp Salt; 1/2 cup softened butter; 1/3rd cup white sugar.. Sift Maida, baking powder, soda and salt for few minutes.. Keep it aside.. In another bowl, mix butter and sugar until it becomes creamy and pluffy.. You may use machine beater or hand beater.. Machine beater provides more softness.. Optional - you may add 1 tsp of Vanilla ascence.. Mix the flour to Sugar/butter bowl little by little to make a soft dough..Should not be sticky and hard... Preheat the oven to 350 degree F.. make about 12 to 14 balls of cookie..Do not press too hard.. place them on the baking sheet.. separated by 2"..sprinkle little flour on them..Keep them in the fridge...

This snack is also one of the speciality of karnataka cuisine.This one too my mom used to prepare during Diwali and all other festivals.The recipe is some what similar to chakuli.In these few more ingredients is required and the shape of it is different like a disc. My son likes this snack very much,so i prepare this snack quite offen. Ingredients: 3 cups Rice flour 1 cup Fried gram dal powder(Hurrikadalle) 2 tsp red chili powder 1/4 tsp asafoetida(hing) 2-3 tsp crushed groundnuts/peanuts 1-2 tsp fried gram dal salt 1/2 tsp sesame seeds 2 tbsp hot oil oil for frying Method: Fry without oil fried gram dal just to make it warm. Dry grind it into fine powder. Take a mixing bowl and mix all the above ingredients, and also sprinkle hot oil on these mixer. I think everybody is familiar with this delicious cool dessert .when we were kids eating this cool Indian Ice cream is to be so much fun.sometimes with our mom's help ,used to prepare this ice cream at home and used to be very impatient to eat it.we used check freezer every 5 minutes to see if the Kulfi is done and mom used to scold us for that. But after a long wait the result used to be very delicious.And we used to proudly eat that icecrem as we used to believe we made it.
