Nellikai (Amla/Indian Gooseberry) Tambli/Tambuli

Nellikai/Amla is a edible fruit of a size of lemon, sour taste and found in yellow green color. It has many medicinal value in Ayurveda. Both dried and fresh can be used. Gooseberry is very rich in vitamin C .Using this gooseberry many recipes can be prepared out of which i am preparing tambuli .
Tambli is a very simple recipe which requires no cooking and is one of the common, nutritious dish in our Mangalore cuisine. It is made of mainly curd/yogurt and coconut. It is best during summer,as this cold tambli goes very well with hot plain rice. There are many types of tambli using different ingredients, today i am posting using gooseberry.
For this recipe you can use fresh, dried or frozen gooseberry.my mother-in-law stores this gooseberry  in salted water when it comes in season,so that we can make gooseberry recipes throughout the year.same way you can dry this gooseberry in sun and store it like that or in powder form for future use .
Ingredients:
2 Gooseberry
1 cup curd/yogurt
1/4 cup fresh grated coconut
salt
2-3 green chilies
1/4 tsp cumin seeds(optional)
seasoning:
1 tsp ghee
1/4 tsp mustard seeds
pinch of hing(asafoetida)
curry leaves
1 red chili broken into pieces

Method:
Clean and remove seeds from the gooseberry(nellikai).here as i am using salted nellikai i have removed seeds and made pieces of it.
Take a pan add little ghee, cumin seeds and green chilies.fry them in slow flame till cumin seeds turn brown color.
Switch of the flame and add coconut in the pan.You can add little black pepper if you want.
Grind them all except seasoning ingredients in blender into smooth semisolid paste.add drinking water according to your choice of consistency.
If you don't want to add cumin seeds,as gooseberry itself have all medicinal value you can directly grind gooseberry, green chilies, coconut and curd etc in blender together.
Remove it in serving bowl and give seasoning .
Goes very well with hot plain rice.
