Bhath[Karnataka Special]-------------Eruli and Nimbe hananni Chitranna / Lemon and onion Rice

                        
Chitranna / Lemon rice is Rice dish which is a very much speciality of Bangalore / Mysore region of Karnataka.We can prepare this dish very easily and it taste really good.According to the ingredients we can prepare different types of  Chitranna. few are like,
Nimbehannina(Lemon ) chitranna
Erulli(Onion ) Chitranna
Capsicum  Chitranna
Mavinakai (Raw Mango) Chitranna
Kai-Sasve (Coconut-rai) Chitranna
etc...
Here i am posting Eruli Chitranna/ lemon rice .Among all these variety Lemon rice is the Famous and easy to prepare.During Festivals and in Functions mostly people prepare this dish.In festivals and functions only Lemon rice is prepared without any onion and garlic. Chitranna means mixed rice. My mom and i think many people Prepare Lemon rice/Mango rice with Lemon Juice on Ram Navammi.So here is the simple Lemon rice recipe.....

Ingredients:

  • 2cup Sonamasuri Rice
  • 1 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 3-5 green chilies
  • salt
  • sugar(optional)
  • 3 tsp lemon juice
  • coriander leaves
  • 1 small onion medium cut
  • 1" ginger(optional)
  • 1 tbsp fresh grated coconut 
  • seasoning:
  • 1 tsp oil
  • 1 tsp ghee
  • 1/2 mustard seeds
  • 1/2 urad dal
  • 1/2 tsp channa dal
  • 1 tsp peanut/cashews
  • 1 red chili broken into pieces
  • curry leaves
  • pinch of hing(asafoetida)
Method:

Cook rice in pressure cooker ,carefully add water (mainly less than the usual)while cooking because rice should not be soft and the rice grain should be like separated to each other.if not then while mixing with the gojju it will become paste.Best way of doing it is after the rice is cooked spread that rice on a plate and let it cool off for a while before adding it in gojju.

Now take a pan add seasoning,when mustard start spluttering add,green chilies,ginger, onion(you can also use Capsicum along with onion or only capsicum) and stir fry till onion turns red.
Now add salt,turmeric powder,sugar and stir for 1 minute.
Finally add rice,coconut and mix it properly.
Let it simmer for 2 minutes.add lemon juice and garnish with coriander leaves.

The other method of doing it is sprinkle turmeric powder and salt,sugar on the cooked spreaded rice.
then when the onion is fried add coconut and stir for 1 minute.pour this gojju on the rice.add lemon juice and
coriander leaves and mix everything properly .


                                                             
                                                                                                             
Both ways is tasty but taste differs.
