Beet Root Huli(sambhar)

Beet Root as you all know that it has a very nutritional value.We don't have much recipes of this,but in our family we all like it .I try to make the recipe like one we make for red leaves (kemp harve soppu) in mangalore . This one my  sister-in-law makes it very tasty.
Ingredients:

  • 1-2 Beet root
  • 3-5 green chili
  • 1 tsp tamarind paste
  • 1" jaggery(optional)
  • salt
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 2 tsp rice flour
  • seasoning
  • oil/ghee
  • 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1/2 tsp urad dal
  • curry leaves
  • 2 tsp garlic pieces
  •  1-2 red chili pieces
Method:
Wash and peel Beet root.Cut the Beet Root into half and  cook this in pressure cooker.

When the cooked Beetroot is cooled off ,grate it with medium grater.


In a deep pan add tamarind paste ,little water,salt,jaggery,turmeric powder,green chili and bring to boil.let it boil for 2 minutes.

Now add grated Beet Root and let it boil for 3-4 minutes.take rice flour in a bowl,add little water and make it like paste.add this into above and let the sambhar boil for  5 minutes.the raw rice flour smell should go. Instead of rice flour you can add cooked toor dal also.

Finally take a pan,add oil and all seasoning.when garlic become brown in color,switch off and pour this tadka(seasoning) into above sambhar.serve this with hot plain Rice,kara da hapla(spicy red papad ) and butter/ghee/coconut oil.
