Rava Uppma(uppittu)/Karabhath(vegetable uppma) [Karnataka Cuisine Special]

This recipe is my husbands secrete recipe.He makes very good uppittu ,when very special request comes.
I try to do the  the same way ,somewhat like MTR karabhath,it really taste good.You can make uppma with out vegetables,but i prefere with veggies.

Ingredients:


  • 1 cup Semolina(medium Rava)
  • i onion chopped
  • 2-4 green chili cut into pieces/lengthwise
  • 1 small tomato
  • 2" ginger chopped finely
  • 1 cup of veggies like capsicum,carrot and beans,peas 
  • 2 tbsp ghee
  • 2 tsp  oil
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/4 cup fresh grated coconut
  • coriander leaves
  • 2-3 cup water
  • salt
  • sugar
  • 2 tsp lemon juice
  • seasoning
  • 1 tsp mustard
  • 1/2 tsp urad dal
  • 1/8 tsp chana dal
  • 1 tsp broken cashews
  • curry leaves

Method:

Fry Rava with ghee till nice aroma comes and rava turns light brown in color.remove and keep aside.

meanwhile you can keep water to boil,i add little salt and veggies like carrot,peas,beans in this water and cook the veggies like that.You can use cut frozen vegetable for this too.


Take a pan put oil and all seasoning.when mustard start spluttering add onion,capsicum ,green chilies,ginger and fry till onion turns red.close the lid and let the capsicum cook in that steam.once the capsicums are cooked add salt,sugar and turmeric powder in it.


Now remove veggies from the water and add above.stir everything nicely/properly .now add roasted semolina(rava) and stir for 1 more minute.everything should be mixed properly.

Finally add the boiling water and stir it continuously.see and add water according to your consistency of uppma.when all water is absorbed and the rava is cooked add fresh grated coconut ,lemon juice and mix it very well.garnish it with coriander leaves.
