chayote squash (Semebadnekai) Hasi( masala not fried) Huli(Sambhar)

As we won't get Ash guard,yellow big cucumber ,padval kayi here in stores (we get in indian stores ), so now i use this chiyote squash which is our indian semebadnekai a lot.I make some recipes with this vegetable.Its good for your health too.

Ingredients:

1 chiyote squash(semebadnekai) cut into medium pieces and cooked in pressure cooker
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
1/4 tsp tamarind paste
salt to taste
1" jaggary(optional)
1-2 green chilies
For masala:
4-6 red chilies
1 tsp jeera(cumin seeds)
1/2-3/4 cup  fresh grated coconut
seasoning:
oil/ghee
1/2 tsp mustard  
1 red chili pieces
hing
curry leaves
1/2 tsp urad dal
coriander leaves for garnishing

Method:

Take a deep bottom pan add oil and all seasonings.when mustard splutters add cut cooked squash,turmeric powder ,green chilies,little salt ,tamarind paste and jaggery .stir for 2 minutes and cover the lid.let the squash be cooked little more in that steam for 2 more minutes.

Meanwhile prepare masala by grinding all ingredients in blender adding little water into smooth paste.

Add this masala above  and let the sambhar to boil for 5 minutes.garnish with coriander leaves.serve hot with plain rice.

  1. I had always wanted a gravy recipe for this squash as I used to make the dry version of it always . I tried this and came good. Very good flavour and an authentic touch. Thanks for the recipe.Now I will make it often.
